NYC Nursery Scheme Foundation
Earlier this week, I shared my ‘jumping off point’ for the nursery design for the NYC Apartment. To capture this essence, I’m starting by locking in key foundational elements.
The Walls
Option 1: Wallpaper
Because this is a rental, I am hoping to avoid wallpaper or paint but there are some spectacular options on the market to bring this look to life. Here are a few wallpaper options if you’re interested in trying it yourself:
There are many more options available online across all price points and many vendors allow you to customize your color range. If you’re looking for more options, searching ‘ombre wallpaper’ or ‘custom ombre wallpaper’ will yield a lot of great options.
Option 2: Art
This is the option I am pursuing. Because the space already has a bit of a gallery feel to it, this is a good fit for the space. Art is a great way to invest in a design element that we can take with us when we eventually move. Because its not a theme that she will outgrow, its an investment that we can continue to use in iterations of her room as she grows up. I’ve found a few artists that do some really beautiful work that bring this vibe to life:
I discovered this artist via instagram and am obsessed with his work. Here are a few that I love from his site but for this project, I plan to commission something to specify the color scheme.
Option 3: DIY Project
If art and wallpaper are not quite in your budget, there is a great DIY option if you’re up for the challenge. Buying a smaller amount of wallpaper and either framing it or wallpapering a panel and hanging that as art is a great way to get the look for less!
The Floors
The wood floors are a dark brown and are really hard. I want to add a plush area rug to the space to create a comfortable, cozy play space on the floor where I know we will be spending hours. This is also a great opportunity to bring in aspects from the inspiration reference. I love the modern feel of the grid from the Zimmerman runway show ceiling and reinterpreted that with a subtle colorful version in this stunning carpet from Stark Carpet.
Next, I’ll tackle the layout and layer in the furniture- stay tuned!
