introducing The southampton federalist
Back in November, we purchased a historic home in Southampton Village that dates back to the late 1700s just before the turn of the century. It’s part of the federalist period and some of the architectural details are still in tact. The 225 year old floors are still in great shape, the glass transom over the entry door is original as are some of the windows and woodwork details. The house is charming, warm, inviting - a great family home.
I have always loved old homes. The repurposing of rooms and changes made throughout the years make for interesting nooks and crannies and spaces that feel special. You cannot build that kind of character today and it’s a great baseline to start from.
Here’s a few snapshots of the house…
The Front
Entry from the street
The far right side of the house is the original late 1700s home. The left side with the garage was added in the 90s.
The original part of the house.
The Side Yards
An angle from the back of the house that I love. It creates this side yard area that we have some fun plans for. The house has a large front yard and two side yards. This being the smaller of the two.
The larger side yard
The Back Yard + Pool
The backyard has a unique shaped pool designed by the home’s prior owner who was also a designer. The pool is connected to the house via a patio and has an adjacent pool house.
The Pool House has a main room, shower and WC
The Design Concept
The Design concept for the house is to keep the original details but update the interiors with bright white walls, textured muted raffia, white linens and fun art to give it a casual relaxed vibe suitable for a year-round family respite and summer oasis.
